Permit Information

Arkansas gun laws allow concealed carry permits to be issued to residents only. No permit is required when you are “upon a journey” beyond your county of residence. However, there is still some confusion regarding this law and it will need to be sorted out by the courts. Training and background checks are required for new permit applications. Open carry is permitted in some counties.

Open carry, Really you would be the first targeted by some one wanting to do bodily harm . I have a cwcp and thats how im going to carry.

Not just open carry, it’s Constitutional carry. Arkansas is majority wide open farmland and the rest is woodlands with all kinds of critters. Thats where majority of open carry occurs, not in town while shopping etc. Only out of town idiots making a point would create a ruckus while open carry. Ive never seen anyone open carry except for police officers in my career as an insurance investigator, with exception to farmers on farms/ranches and those camping in the hills.

Being it’s a right, excersing a right isn’t restricted because someone not liking the right and causing a rukus. With the mentality open carry will cause a rukus because people doesn’t like the sight of a gun, some people dislikes religion so you shouldn’t wear any religious items in public, it may cause a rukus. This is America, Dam the rukus that may ensue, excersise your rights and let the public adjust to real world where freedom aren’t restricted just for them to feel comfortable.

What is constitutional carry? Why is every other person saying you don’t need chcl anymore?

Laura
Guest
Laura

Constitutional carry means that they have acknowledged our right to bear arms concealed or open without a permit. There are still areas you cannot carry such as schools or government buildings etc. But you can carry freely otherwise. They are saying you don’t need the chcl anymore because arkansas is now constitutional carry and therefore the permit does not give you any rights or privileges that you do not already have without it (unless you get the enhanced concealed carry licence.)

I have a sign on my front and back doors of my home for No Guns Allowed ( Handgun in a 🚫 circle with a slash through it 🚫 ). This means No Guns Allowed in my home. It is legal and means anyone carrying a firearm in my home can, and will be arrested. I don’t own any firearms, but do support anyone or legal age the right to own one. IT IS THEIR LEGAL RIGHT TO OWN A FIREARM, and I fully respect that right, as they should, as required by LAW, respect my right NOT to allow… Read more »

Well, Johnny, it was Diane Feinstein who coined the false name “assault” weapon onto all Armalite semi-auto loading rifles because they looked scary to her. B4, the “assault” on AR15 rifles, they were called “Tactical” rifles because the then plastic stocks made this hunting rifle more durable and lighter to carry than a solid wooden stock. That’s history for you. She and her cohorts, after the Brady Bill, decided to attack the AR15 because they couldn’t win against handguns which most are semi-auto loading as well. See, when you fire a shot, it automatically expels the empty cartridge and loads… Read more »

But you sound like such an educated man; so thoughtful, such an insightful critical thinker. Just one thing: You should go back and finish the 3rd grade. They don’t offer a diploma or anything, but then again, if they did, you couldn’t read it anyway. Bunch of fuckin’ hillbillies on this site.

You do realize that the amount of money donated by the NRA pales in comparison to the amounts donated by big pharma, insurance companies, and telecom companies. I’d have to go back and check the numbers, but i think the money from the NRA doesn’t even crack the top 50, definitely not in the top 10 as far as amount by industry. The idea that politicians are in the NRA’s pocket is pure fallacy. Everybody gets outraged at the thought, but nobody bats an eye that a congressman might be controlled by Verizon.

Someone under 21 can not carry a hand gun / pistol, unless they are active in the Armed Forces. Hunting rifles and shotguns are fine though as long as they are unloaded and in a case.

I believe so, but the weapon can not be loaded, and the gun and the shells should be stored in separate areas. Of course here in Arkansas we have so few gun laws, and the discretion lays with the police officer who pulls you over or whatever. Gun in front, clip/shells in trunk (don’t know about pickup trucks. In Arkansas we need better and more defined gun laws to protect the gun owner. Not many exist, except for concealed weapon carry laws, funny that when you get that license, you get more rules to follow. If I was you, I… Read more »

You are allowed to carry concealed inside a church as long as the church hasn’t posted anything against it. It is up to each church how to decide who they can designate who can carry concealed. Many churches have started security teams.

Moving from Massachusetts to Arkansas in the near future (thank god). I know the state recognizes MA’s LTC, but will it be OK to move into state and be a resident with my firearms until I can get my Arkansas LTC processed?

Wes

This one is tricky, hasn’t been tested in court. The law concerning carry a firearm implies that open or concealed is fine; however, the concealed carry statute states that your weapon must be concealed. It would therefore be possible for a prosecutor to say you violated the concealed carry statute if you have a license and were open carrying. I’m not saying that it is or isn’t legal. Just conveying information from my research and talks with “experts”. I’ve heard anecdotally that some officers have said they would take someone’s permit away (they can to begin a revocation) if they… Read more »

I realize this didn’t answer your question. The best path may be contacting the agencies in the area you want to open carry in and ask them how they would enforce the involved statutes.

This is incorrect Arkansas is a constitutional carry state. It was passed in 2013 and upheld by the Arkansas court of appeals, the governor, the Arkansas attorney general, and the Arkansas Senate.

A 16 year old can own a handgun in AR as long as parent bought and allows, still have to be 21 to purchase unless you are active military or reserve then its 18.

Thank you John. I’ve been looking for the answer. I was going to say, if theirs no law against it or specifically covering it, then there’s no crime.
It’s like motorcyclists and lane splitting. It’s not legal but there no law against it.
